AD25                 Sailor Suit and Machine Gun (81) aka: Sêrâ-fuku to kikanjû   A cute and spunky high school girl named Izumi does not know that her father is the head of a Yakuza clan.  When he dies she becomes the new leader.  Her father smuggled heroin and now smelling weakness the rival Yakuza plan to take possession.  Izumi is not going to let that happen.  They are outnumbered.  Let the killing begin.  Eventually Izumi, clad in a sailor suit, breaks out the machine gun and starts spraying bullets.....  Plenty of violence and bloodshed, all presented somehow in a light-hearted way.  Japanese with English subtitles  BA

AD204 Atomic Submarine, The (59) aka: War of the Submarine   Colorized!  This science fiction submarine monster movie comes alive in color, the monster looks cooler than ever as we see it very clearly.  Great cast of actors playing it straight make you believe it!  See more description in main catalog.  Arthur Franz, Dick Foran, Brett Halsey, Bob Steele and my favorite Joi Lansing. 

AD206 Attack of the Giant Leeches (59) aka: The Giant Leeches   Colorized!  Some of the gorier scenes really come alive.  The dark shadows in the underwater caves are clearer.   I can imagine just how scary and horrifying this film must have been for the kids in theatres of 1959.  Once again surprised by what the color does to flesh out a film regarding all of the little details inside the store, the sexy legs of Yvette Vickers, the grisly end many face at the suckers of the leeches and more.  BA

AD295 Bombs Over Burma (42) aka: Black Journey   Colorized!  Listed in Black and White #B717 this is the Color version.  See Anna May Wong in Color.  More information in Classic section of main catalog.  BA

AD154 Curtain Call (40) Playwrights find out a way to get even with an overbearing star.  They purchase a play written by a no talent  playwright called 'The End of Everything'.  Things don't play out as you would expect.  Barbara Read and Helen Vinson star.  Screenplay by Dalton Trumbo.  Barbara Read would seal the door and windows of her home in Laguna Beach in 1963 and turn on the gas.  Dead at 45.  BA

AD196 Fog Island (45) Colorized!  Bringing some life into this old 'And Then There Were None' styled relic.  Any film with George Zucco as a villain is always nice, regardless of the budget.  He plays an investor just released from prison who invites those who framed him to his remote island so he can pick them off one by one.  Why would they come?  Because they think they can find the loot he allegedly stashed.  Colorized!  BA

AD80 Hooked (57) aka: Curfew Breakers   Teenagers in a small American town do drugs for kicks, many of them dying in the process, exactly like it's 2026, except with no cell phones.  It's up to the cops to work their way up the chain to get to the main culprits supplying the stuff.  Leg work.  Tree shaking.  The parents are clueless.  The film is given the Dragnet treatment.  Paul Kelly stars as the top Narcotics Officer.  A boy meets a girl from the wrong side of the tracks.  People are murdered.  Cool cars, pool halls, jocks, no one is safe.  Just say no?

AD202 Invasion USA (52) aka: Atomic Attack Against America   Colorized!   War-time stock footage represents the decimation of the U.S.A.  by Communist forces.  Scenes of the London Blitz represents the burning of New York City.  This is our future under the warnings invoked by 'Tail Gunner Joe' McCarthy who charged that Communists had infiltrated every aspect of American life.  A group of strangers sit in a bar and discuss our fate while military leaders talk, and talk some more.  In Color, the movie kept me in suspense, making it a great side by side with 'Panic in the Year Zero'.  BA

AD203 Mask of the Dragon (51) aka: Dragon of Death   53 minutes and Colorized!   Richard Travis is the Sam Spade of the picture under the name Phil Ramsey.  Phil and his girlfriend find themselves in an investigation which leads them to smugglers operating out of a Chinatown curio shop in downtown Los Angeles.  The picture grinds to a halt when they (horse) shoehorn a singing cowboy act for a couple of useless musical numbers.  The film tries to invoke a Charlie Chan flavor and why not, although cheaply.  Also starring Sheila Ryan, Lyle Talbot and Sid Melton.   BA

AD199 Money Madness (48) Colorized!  Bank robber Steve Clark (Hugh (Ward Cleaver in 'Leave it to Beaver’) Beaumont) is on the lam, working as a cab driver in a small town.  Steve's plan is to woo a young naive woman (Frances Rafferty) into marriage so he can launder the 200 grand he successfully has stolen.  But first he needs to figure out how to kill her mother.  Hugh Beaumont is effective as a creepy conniving man with a plan.   Don't tell the Beav! 

AD190 Monster from the Ocean Floor (54) Colorized!  Diver Julie (Anne Kimbell) spots a giant one-eyed monster in the ocean depths and together with a marine biologist they investigate further.  Now the monster is more defined and hilarious than ever.  Colorized!  BA

AD192 Phantom of Chinatown (40) Colorized!  Real China born James Lee Wong (Key Luke of 'Kung Fu') takes over the role from the Englishman Boris Karloff.  The story involves the murder investigation of an archeology professor who has located a scroll which reveals much about a large quantity of oil (we see a flashback).  There are six such films, Karloff was in five as Wong, this the only one with Luke.  Also starring Lotus Long and Grant Withers.  Colorized!  BA

AD184 Rebel Set, The (59) Bearded faux beatnik Tucker (Edward Platt) runs a Beatnik hangout as a front.  In reality he is not a beatnik, but a criminal planning a heist.  He has learned by now who he can trust to help him, choosing from patrons of the place.  Later on a train, the new crooks under his employ find out just how nasty Tucker really is.  Still, they travel to the destination of the armored car they plan to rob.  Kathleen Crowley, Greg Palmer and more star.  BA

AD200 Rocket Attack U.S.A.  (60) aka: Five Minutes to Zero   Colorized!  Through the use of Sputnik the Soviet Union has developed a nuclear warhead and is ready to launch it against America.  A confused narrator chimes in now and again and adds even more confusion spliced together with stock footage, newscasts, and funny accents.  What before was dark and dreary comes alive in Colorized edition.  This is the way the world ends...  BA 

AD178 Summer Love (58) The local lake camp comes alive when a neighborhood rock band gets involved to loosen things up for the youth of today, or yesterday if you prefer.  Sal Mineo on drums.  John Saxon the handsome lead, his girlfriend played by Judi Meredith and shapely Jill St. John as the femme fatale/fickle rich kid.  A time capsule to a lost time.  Also starring Fay Wray, Shelly Fabares, Troy Donahue, Molly Bee and Rod McKen (who would do back up vocals for some Madonna music in 1998).  BA

AD191 Things to Come (36) Colorized!  This movie about the future looks better in color.  There.  I said it.  The earth is devastated in a montage of endless wars.  Then to the rebuilding and eventually the 21st century and on to space travel.  The outfits pop out at you in their magnificent design and purples.  The special effects are actually incredible, more so in color.  William Cameron Menzies sets of the ruined Everytown is some of his best work.  Real sets are better than blue screen computer sets (which are essentially cartoons) period.  BA

DINOSAURS, LOST LANDS, SWORD AND SANDALS, PELUMS AND FANTASY FILMS

AD155 Blanche (71) A medieval tragedy.   Blanche (Ligia Branice) is a beautiful young woman who is married to an older man (Michel Simon as 'The Count').   Nicolas, son of the Count has just returned from The Crusades.  Nicolas is attracted to Blanche but Blanche is a good girl.  The king also wants to steal away Blanche for himself.  You will simply be blown away by the events that follow, all committed in the name of lust and envy, the tragic outcome of men with treachery lust and betrayal in their hearts.  The music is faithful to the era, the period costumes and set design excellent.  Directed by Walerian Borowczyk.  Ligia Branice would end her career in 1978's 'Behind Convent Walls' where she no longer plays a 'good girl'.    French with English subtitles

AD201 Drums of the Wild (51) aka: Savage Drums   Colorized!  Sabu returns to his island home in the South Island Sea where he is crowned king and must contend with treachery from within from local traitors who conspire with communist invaders.  Only a treaty with America ensures their freedom and prosperity for a better future, something that Sabu wants to make happen so the island does not fall to communism.  Also starring Lita Baron as Sabu's love interest.  Lita Baron would go on to marry Rory Calhoun.  BA

AD197 Forbidden Jungle (50) Colorized!  An expedition into the jungle to search for a boy who survived a plane crash and is now living amongst the animals in the wild.  Somehow they got away with this Tarzan rip-off without giving Edgar Rice Burroughs any credit.  He died the same month this came out of a heart attack.  Was this atrocity the cause?   Stock footage galore.  BA

AD157 Ghosts of Chosun (70) aka:  Ijo geodam   Ghost Story of Joseon Dynasty - In medieval Japan, a Prince lusts for the wife of another man and when he is denied the  husband is bound and then slashed to death by the sword.  The wife, distraught, says goodbye to her black cat and stabs herself.  The cat laps up the warm blood pooling on the floor.  Now, she joins her husband, both supernatural undead, along with an angry black cat, in the shared destiny of vengeance.  Widescreen but no subtitles

AD195 Jungle Goddess (48) Colorized!  The white goddess trope may not have started here, but it's fully on display, and even better in color!  Wanda McKay, Miss American Aviation of 1938, is Greta the White Goddess, worshipped by the natives, sought after by two pilots seeking a reward for finding her.  George Reeves, Armida and more star.  Colorful and though they play it straight it's a laugh riot throughout for various reasons.  BA

AD145 Knight, The (80) aka: Rycerz   From Poland, the tale of a much sought after golden-stringed harp.  In this world of plagues, poverty and continuing chaos one knight has reached his limit enduring calamities and searches for the legendary harp which is sunk in the sea.  This harp is supposed to be the catalyst for change and with the discovery of the harp happiness will spill across the land.  Or is it all a fantasy?  Polish with English subtitles

AD48 Last Lion, The (72) aka: De sista lejonen   Ryk Mannering (Jack Hawkins) is ill, maybe terminally.  His main goal is to kill a lion.  He enters Africa and in a jeep with his small team they are armed to kill for sport.  There.  Looks like lion tracks!  Lucky he brought his doctor (Karen Spies) along to keep him alive.  Hey!  I have an idea.  Let's charge a herd of elephants in our jeep and shoot one to death.  Good fun.  What a man.  Nobody around to harvest the animal.  He shoots a lioness that has cubs.  The cubs have adventures while the adult male lion tries to escape the wrath of the dying hunter while protecting the cubs.  Pessimistic and cold-hearted.  Kind of sad, but not in the way they intended.  BA

AD198 Queen of the Jungle (55) aka: Sheena, Queen of the Jungle  Colorized!   Feature length from the short-lived series.  Leopard skin-suited Sheena (Irish McCalla) smiles as she stands in a fake Kenya set staring at stock footage of wild animals.  Only a moment passes before Sheena is tied to a tree with a whip by big Buddy Baer (Giant from the Unknown).  A monkey hits him on the head with a coconut.  Further Colorized adventures of Sheena follow.  Irish McCalla is a hellcat with a whip!  Irish McCalla was a statuesque pin-up star with great knockers.  She died in Tucson, Arizona February 1st 2002 at age 73 of a brain tumor and stroke complications.  BA

AD30 Rape of the Sword (67) aka: Dao jian   The sword of a great master has been stolen and then gifted to an Imperial Prince to gain favor for the traitorous and shameless swordsman who has stolen it.  The swordsman had to kill to get it, now he has the dead man's wife after him as well as the rightful heir to the sword.  Sounds like music was lifted from Spaghetti westerns for part of the score.  The fabled sword of the murdered teacher changes hands many times throughout, dealing death each time.  Widescreen  Mandarin with English subtitles.  BA

AD103 Shaolin Hellgate (80) aka: Di san lei da dou   Three parts of the film play out.   A spirit in heaven is sent back to earth.  The second part features a man and his bride followed by the third part which takes place in hell as several spirits who were heaven bound wind up below instead.  In hell, the only way out is to fight as the spirits of the damned have to live out there sins and vices for the rest of their lives.  Hell, demons, torture, weird dance numbers and music....   Widescreen and dubbed into English

AD149 Super Rider Against the Devils (76) aka: Shan Dian Qi Shi Da Zhan Di Yu Jun Tuan  Doctor Death and the Ambassador of Hell must face the products of their own ill intent when the super-powered 'Super-Riders' challenge their absolute despicable tyranny.  Acrobatic feats and the ability to transform into a Kamen Rider facing showdowns with rubber monsters and henchmen in a wild colorful display of fantasy action!  Widescreen  Mandarin with English subtitles  BA

AD44 Valley of the Bees, The (68) aka: Údolí vcel  13th century in central Europe.  A boy coming of age joins the Teutonic Knights after being tossed head first into a rock wall.  Now grown he is fully established in their ways, surrounded only by men and their noble castle like dwellings, horseback riding and the like.  He rejects the holy order along with his sacred vow, slaying some of the Knights with his sword.  Now he returns home.  His father is dead.  His step-mother is whipping herself.  They become lovers.  A bloody suicide, but who?   The Knights are coming.  Where are the bees?  Czech with English subtitles.   Not to be confused with 'Spirit of the Beehive'.

AD8 Accidental Death (63) Based on the Edgar Wallace 1920 novel 'Jack O'Judgment'.   Johnnie Paxton (Richard Vernon) is informed by Paul Lansom (John Carson, what a career!) that he, Paul, has come to kill Johnnie due to his collaboration with the Nazis which resulted in the death of Paul's fiancé.  Got that? Paul has befriended Johnnie's daughter Henriette (Jacqueline Ellis).  A friendly game of cat and mouse ensues.  But what is the real truth?   Widescreen

AD17 Act of Murder (64) Inspired by Edgar Wallace and resembles one of his quite well.   Tim Ford (John Carson) plays the spurned wannabe lover of Justine Lord (Anne Longman) while on the periphery there dwells her wary husband Ralph (Anthony Bate) ready to make his move all during a deception sleight of hand house swap and antique heist.  Twists, turns and creepiness (the poisoning of pets!) come fast and furious and my advice, never have a temporary house swap, not even with the closest of friends.   Widescreen

AD12 Double, The (63) Based on the Edgar Wallace novel of 1928 with the same title.  John Cleeve (Alan McNaughtan) has completely lost his memory.  John experiences nightmares of killing, violence at his own hand.  He fears he may be the murderer of his business partner.  But where?  Why? There is no body.  No crime reported.  Is there another John Cleeve that John Cleeve doesn't know about?  Also starring Diane Clare, Jeanette Sterke and Robert Brown.  Widescreen

AD16 Face of a Stranger (64) Edgar Wallace modified by Jimmy Sangster story about inmate Vince (Jeremy Kemp) who is released and finds that his wife has replaced him back home.  Vince goes to Mary (Rosemary Leach) the blind wife of another inmate.  This particular inmate spoke of a hidden cache of loot that he is going to retrieve when he is out of prison.  Vince convinces the blind Mary that he is her husband.  Mary takes to him immediately.  What happens next may surprise you.  Widescreen

AD9 Partner, The (66) Based on the 1926 Edgar Wallace novel 'The Million Dollar Story'.  A tax evading film producer's scheme leads to murder and the theft of a large sum of money.  Yoko Tani (as 'Lin') the Japanese actress gets top billing.  The scene of Yoko being on the phone when her jerk boyfriend nibbles on her ear is unintentionally hilarious.  Also starring Guy Doleman, Anthony Booth and Helen Lindsay.  Widescreen

AD13 Ricochet (63) Based on the 1922 novel by Edgar Wallace 'The Angel of Terror'.  A man (Richard Leach) with a heart of stone plots to set up his wealthy wife (Maxine Audley) as the murderer of her lover (Alex Scott) so he can collect big.  Scenes in snow covered England add a cold atmosphere to this tale of blackmail and murder for money.  Starring Patrick Magee as the unsympathetic Inspector.  It is interesting to see Streatham Ice Arena in it's full glory, now of course, long gone in 2026.  Widescreen

AD11 Rivals, The (63) Based on the 1920 Edgar Wallace short story collection 'Elegant Edward'.  A trio of car thieves steal a car and inside they find a ransom note for a kidnapping.  They decide to collect on this themselves, the victim be damned, and find not only the kidnappers, but the Swedish millionaire whose daughter was kidnapped wants them captured and killed.  Then there is the matter of the police, who are closing in fast.   Perpetrating a fraud with a double dose of danger proves to be more dangerous than any amount of car thievery.  Widescreen

AD10 To Have and To Hold (63) Based on the 1918 story 'The Breaking Point' by Edgar Wallace.  Sergeant Fraser (Ray Barrett) goes against all regulations when he falls in love with a woman he has been called on to protect from some psycho.  Then the woman is murdered and her sister arrives.  A convoluted plot screenplay written by Jimmy Sangster who possibly mixed 'Laura' with 'Vertigo' plus his own twisty ideas.  Widescreen  

AD20 Verdict, The (64) From the Edgar Wallace 1929 novel 'The Big Four'.  Joe Armstrong (Cec Linder) has been living abroad for nearly two decades.  Now Joe has been deported back to Great Britain to face a jury for a killing that he allegedly committed 25 years ago.  Is Joe really responsible?  The jury is stacked.  Plot twists and surprises are coming.  How could they see that coming?  Zena Marshall and more also star.  Widescreen

AD19 We Shall See (64) Based on the Edgar Wallace novel of 1926.  Alva (Faith Brook) is the vicious and controlling wife of an airline pilot (Maurice Kaufmann) who seems to want to destroy everything in her way.  She also has a phobia for bees adding to her psychological issues.  What a shrew.  Will she succeed in creating chaos and then get her final comeuppance? Or is this simply another ruse for some type of revealing plot twist?  We shall see. 

AD18 Who Was Maddox? (64) Based on the Edgar Wallace story from 1926 'The Undisclosed Client'.  After a jewelry robbery at his home, Jack Heath (Jack Watling) is beside himself.  The truth of the matter is that Jack's wife Diane (Suzanne Lloyd) hid her jewelry so she can collect the insurance money and has already sold it in order to pay her blackmailer Maddox, a man no one has ever seen.  Later, Jack finds himself at the scene where Diane's uncle has been murdered and he is arrested for  killing him.   A frame job.  Twists still to come.  Bernard Lee as Superintendent Meredith.  Widescreen

AD153 American Tickler (76) The spoofing of American movies made for an adult audience in the spirit of 'The Groove Tube'.  Segments include: Drunk in bar, Widow Jones, King Dong Reporter, Man with Love Doll, Hotel spanker and many more.  Molly Malone, Joe Piscopo and even director Chuck Vincent himself as 'Martha Ubell'!   BA

AD99 Linda and Abilene (69) 19th century.  Orphaned on the family farm, Todd and Abilene (Sharon Matt) come of age.  Oh yes, they hump.  A montage of love making scenes in various locations.  Todd cannot figure out how to take his pants off.   Horny Todd splits for town and meets bar girl Linda (Bambi Allen), pants off, they have fun.  Meanwhile, Abilene gets a visit from Rawhide, a rough and tumble cowboy who violently rapes her.  Todd comes home and Abilene spills the beans about her rape.  Linda visits Abilene and before you know it they are both butt naked on the bed up in each others business.  Todd goes after Rawhide.  BA 

AD169 Melvin: Son of Alvin (84) aka: Foreplay  First there was 'Alvin Purple' then 'Alvin Rides Again' now 'Melvin: Son of Melvin' who discovers that he too has the sexual charisma that was so graciously bequeathed unto his father by God (presumably).  Every woman Melvin encounters wants to have sex with him but Melvin wants to be a one-lady man.  The movie pushes the boundaries with the sex stuff and was released before the new censorship laws began to ruin films by the score.  Idiotic and juvenile with plenty of nice nudity which includes Abigail, Australia's undisputed number one female sex symbol of the time!  Abigail was in all three Alvin Purple films.  BA

AD126 Scent of a Married Woman (01) aka: Hitozuma no sedan: : Nioutatsu yokujou   A creep of a man who revels in bringing garbage into his apartment becomes obsessed with his neighbor.   He believes her to be of the purest cleanliness and overall goodness, his complete opposite.  Of course she is married.  While she is making love to her husband, the trashy man is shuffling bags of waste around his apartment.  He fantasizes about her laying on a sheet of plastic like she is trash, and he fondles her naked body.  And then a pretty girl looks his way.  Best hoarders episode ever!  Japanese with English subtitles

AD125 Struggle for Love (70) aka: Q-Bec My Love  aka: Un succès commercial   Young, sexy and morally loose Q-Bec (Anne Lauriault) juggles relationship with various men including her husband, her boss and her lover.  A satire of sexuality and voyeurism in the entertainment industry.  This film caused quite a stir when it was originally unleashed upon the general public.  A whirlwind of a dark comedy and a surrealist spin on French and New Wave stylization.  B&W   French with English subtitles  BA

AD189 Woman Who Invented Love, The (80)  aka: A Mulher Que Inventou o Amor   Doralice (Aldine Muller) has sex with the butcher and her prostitute friend convinces Doralice that she may as well get paid for it.  Doralice has always dreamed of being with soap opera star Cesar Augusto.  The beautiful Doralice becomes a famous prostitute known as 'The Queen of Moaning in Pleasure' instead.  Doralice meets a doctor and quits her profession to become his mistress.  Always aiming high right Doralice?  Now she is known as 'Tallulah' and she strays and finds Cesar Augusto for sex, then more men.  More.  Tragedy is in the air for poor nymphomaniac Tallulah, but will she be the victim or the villain?  Flirts with the grotesque and the psychological.  Portuguese with English subtitles   BA

EXTREME HORROR AND GORE FILMS

AD144 Agi, the Fury of Evil (84) aka: Agi: Kijin no ikari   The demon 'Agi' is only folklore.  This is the belief of a samurai who is on a quest for answers.  He enters the world of no one, where things defy shape and explanation.  Was it a dream? A bridge must be crossed, one that all others avoid.  The samurai starts to cross the bridge on horseback into the unknown.  Halfway across, a woman shrouded in a  blue cloak.  He passes, but one look over his shoulder back at her and a vision of horror overcomes him, spurring him quickly to the other side, into more than he ever bargained for.  Japanese with English subtitles   BA

AD102 Bloody Beast (94) aka: Long huet yan lung   Demented horror about a man who kills women he sees breast-feeding their child.  *See catalog for longer description   Upgrade!   Now in a nice quality print   Japanese with English subtitles

AD143 Curse of Snakes Valley (88) aka: Klatwa doliny wezy   Better than any of those crappy Indiana Jones films and just as ridiculous.  A scientist, a lady and a military pilot are in the Tibetan jungles in search of a metal vase that contains something of unknown origin.  In the forbidden valley of snakes, there is a curse involving dark ancient supernatural mysteries.  They will enter the Valley of Might and Power.  A cave, a corridor lined with dragon sculptures firing laser beams, and a giant white snake!  Later, the grave of an extraterrestrial visitor from outer space.  The secrets will soon be revealed.  The dialogue can be very funny at times, the special effects old-school practical.  This movie was huge in Poland and Russia.  Polish with English subtitles  BA

AD41 Cyclops (87) aka: Kikuropusu   Genetic anomalies creating mutations, killing many.  Evolution is encouraged and exacerbated (in theory) by a scientist.  To find a new pregnant female donor victim that they can use by inserting an evolutionary change modification into the innocent body to see what grows out of her.  Long before the body shape films of the 21st century.  The gore effects in the last part reminded be of Cronenberg mixed with Carpenter's 'The Thing'.  Japanese with English subtitles  (a bit less than an hour long)  BA

AD239 Devil's Bride (74) aka: Velnio Nuotaka  Hungarian folk fantasy/horror (?).  The movie opens in the Kingdom of Heaven where white-robed acolytes of God sing to a Jesus type on a throne.  Then, they flip and gluttonous feast spins into some kind of clothed orgy.  Tossed out of heaven, back to earth.  A blonde swinging on a windmill, all words are in song.  Mix Wicker Man with Jesus Christ Superstar and maybe we can begin to grasp the meaning behind this colorfully enthusiastic blast of blasphemy which combines Lithuanian folk-motifs with spirited rock and roll rhythms and Christianity.  Fire, Death, Resurrection and the incredibly beautiful Soviet Union countryside.  I don't care what country she is from, that blonde is smokin'!   Lithuanian with English subtitles  BA

AD23 Massacre of Pleasure (66) aka: Massacre pour une orgie  This French made trash would be considered 'strong' stuff in 1966.  The sordid tale of a white slavery ring/drug operation that sets up parties inviting young beautiful women then drugging, kidnapping and selling them to brothels.  A stew of vile characters flesh out the proceedings.  In the opening sequence, a man with one-eye and a whip chases a blonde through a field and captures her, then ties her to a wooden wheel in what looks like a barn by a wide river.  Another scene has one-eye fight a man in the mud, strangling him to death in the muck.  Lesbians, sot core sex, a catfight, numerous interesting outdoor locations, man dangled out a window, cold-hearted killing including a large blade through the back, a guy molesting a woman that is passed out and a surprise ending.  French with English subtitles  BA

AD112 Murder Blues (91) aka: Dead Certain   The police are trying to catch a serial killer who likes to mutilate and murder prostitutes.  Francisco (son of Anthony) Quinn is the detective who seeks the help of an incarcerated serial killer (Brad Dourif) in an obvious 'Silence of the Lambs' styled relationship.  But this was made first!  Our hero is a hard-drinker who takes his young son to a strip club in the middle of a custody battle with his ex (Karen Russell).  Watch this before you watch 'Silence of the Lambs' and then compare. AD92 Point of Terror (71) Overbearing, talentless and ridiculous nightclub singer/entertainer Tony Trelos (Peter Carpenter in his next film after 'Blood Mania') has nightmares about his own singing (he mimes over Motown) and juggles three different women in his life.  Dyanne Thorne is Andrea, the man hungry wife of a wheelchair bound music mogul, who may have murdered the mogul's last wife.  Andrea has wicked lust and also wants Tony to off her husband so she can get his money.  Together they make a sleazy, sordid little team that will lead to a point of terror!  The ending will have you questioning your sanity.  Peter Carpenter was through with movies after this picture.  He would be dead from AIDS in Los Angeles in 1996 at age 56.  Dyanne Thorne went on to be 'Ilsa' and later a real life ordained minister.  Best print ever of Point of Terror!  BA

AD97 Suddenly in the Dark (81) aka: Gipeun bam gabjagi   Kang and his wife Seon-hee hire Mi-ok, a simple girl from the village and also the daughter of a deceased shaman priestess.  Mi-ok is anything but.  She keeps a wooden doll that keeps making an appearance in the nightmares of Seon-hee, who also suspects that her husband Kang is screwing Mi-ok when she is not around.  Jealousy leads to murder leads to the haunting suddenly in the dark!  Horror drawn from Korean shamanistic tradition, combining society, ideals and morality with cultural stereotypes regarding the role women play in the scheme of things.  Korean with English subtitles  BA

AD51 Torture Me, Kiss Me (70) Twenty five years after WWII a Count tells us his account of occupied France which we see in flashback.  Nazis party with three loose women, plenty of swastikas, flagons of ale and oh my.  The breasts are out and the men's mouths make oral contact while a portrait of Hitler looks on.  Colonel Max van Hildebrandt is in charge.  A woman is chased by a Nazi and raped in the woods.  A blonde naked woman washes herself outside.  A priest and a pretty young woman are executed by the Nazis.  A man takes the blonde in bed while footage of bombings is mixed in for some reason.  Another blonde shows up for some naked lesbian fondling.  They share a banana.  A woman is chained from a ceiling and whipped by a big brute of a man.  and then another woman, topless, gets the lash.  German anthems blare.  The whip hits don't even come close to her back, but we hear them hit!  Crack Crack!  On nothing while the woman writhes in ecstasy.  An early Naziploitation Movie.  

AD152 Trilogy of Terror (68) Not to be confused with any other films with this title.  The first segment 'The Agreement' plays with little dialogue and imposes the fear of nuns and the mocking of a cult leader, possessed priests, appearing and disappearing acolytes, Jesus, a mad woman that laughs....  The second segment is entitled 'Procession of the Dead' and the third 'Macabre Nightmare'.  Overall, a healthy dose of sadistic exploitation, vicious and violent, seasoned with sexploitation misogyny and ugliness.  A nice way to spend an afternoon.  Presented by Jose Mojica Marins also known as 'Coffin Joe'!  Widescreen   Portuguese with English subtitles

AD136B Caught in a Net (60) A young boy helps catch lowly criminals who are poaching salmon by blowing them up with dynamite.  Bob Ketley is his name, and saving fish is his game, along with his older brother who is a fish research scientist.  I dunno, the whole thing sounds kind of fishy to me.  Vivid depiction of the West Country.  The boys are led by the late Jeremy Bulloch as Bob Ketley.  That's Boba Fett to you Star Wars people out there. AD131 Champions (84) Steeple chase jockey Bob Champion (John Hurt) is diagnosed with cancer and decides to not let that little detail get in the way of his success.  The most grueling race of all is already slated to take place.  Bob fights cancer and goes on to compete in the 1981 Grand National steeplechase on his trusty steed Aldaniti!  The most amazing story from the most amazing race!  Also starring Edward Woodward, Ben Johnson and (if you can believe it) Kirstie Alley!   BA

AD138 Death of Adolph Hitler, The (73) Frank Finlay is Adolph Hitler in the bunker during his last days.  He is getting more and more paranoid as the moments pass descending into a kind of madness before finally eating a bullet.  Hitler has a delusion that he is back in the Vienna sewers of his youth and keeps talking about getting rid of the rats.  Frank Finlay's Hitler is a cliché, a caricature of a doomed man in his last hours.  Eva Braun is played by Caroline Mortimer.  Also starring Ray McAnally, Ed Devereaux and more. 

AD137A Dog and the Diamonds, The (53) In this high rise, pets are prohibited.  A group of kids with no pets to speak of decide to change this predicament.  Together, they build a secret zoo behind an old manor, not knowing that it is the lair of jewel thieves.  When they realize what is happening they cause trouble for the thieves, and their pets help.  A wisecracking cockatoo, a happy hopping frog and an adorable dog.  Kathleen Harrison, George (Citizen Kane) Coulouris, Geoffrey Sumner and Boffin the dog!   (about an hour long)

AD140 Element of Doubt (96) Schoolteacher Beth suspects her husband is determined to do her in.  He insists to her that she is delusional but her paranoia grows by the day.  Clues continue to feed into her psychosis and on and on until the wild twist coming just around the corner.  Nigel Havers and Gina McKee have great chemistry as the increasingly adversarial married couple.  It's always about the money isn't it?

AD90 It Happened Here (64) aka: En Angleterre occupée   Alternate History Fiction!  Hitler takes over Britain and transforms it into a Fascist state.  It is a shock to see German troops marching through London.  In this uncut version, the wrong-headed justification of Fascism is peppered throughout.  Although in reality, one persons fascism is the same as an opposing sides fascism, both want there way, and both sides want their way enforced.  There is a resistance afoot!  It Happened Here imagines a Britain under the jackboot of the Nazis as if Hitler had succeeded in invading after the retreat at Dunkirk and it is presented to you in documentary style.   BA

Prisoner  Roger Daltrey is professional criminal 'McVicar' ordered to serve his time at Durham, England's highest security prison.  McVicar refuses to bow to the prison system, starting a jangling war of nerves between the inmates and the wardens.  He stirs rebellion over the poor food they are being served, and the ridiculous enforced dress codes.  McVicar is not after prison reform.  This is a distraction for his escape!  Also starring Adam Faith, Cheryl Campbell and Georgina Hale of 'The Devils'.  Roger Daltrey contributes to the soundtrack singing the song 'Bitter and Twisted'.  BA

S191 Paid to Kill (54) aka: Five Days  James Nevill (Dane Clark) tries to convince his friend into murdering him so his wife can get the insurance money after a business deal goes bad.  He blabbers drunk at a bar.  Later James finds a more favorable future exists and tries to cancel the deal, but attempts on his life have just begun, and his friend is nowhere in sight.  There is a twist coming of course in this Hammer Production that keeps you guessing.  BA

AD135 Railway Station Man, The (92) Shot on the coast of Ireland.  Widowed by an I.R.A. shooting, Helen Cuffe (Julie Christie) plays an amateur Irish landscape painter.  She meets the American Roger Hawthorne (Donald Sutherland) who looks after a local disused railway station's restoration.  Roger lost his hand in the Viet Nam war and has a hook for a hand.  Helen's son and Helen herself get mixed up with shady characters who are involved with the I.R.A..  Tragedy unfolds once again.  Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland together again twenty years after 'Don't Look Now'.  BA

S192 Tread Softly Stranger (58) aka: Nel tuo corpo l'inferno   Nerdy accountant  Dave Mansell (Terence Morgan) seems to have it going on with Calico (Diana Dors) until his more aggressive con man brother Johnny Mansell (George Baker) shows up.  Calico tosses Dave under the double-decker bus and runs with Johnny, who drenches her in riches and gifts ill-gotten gains all through embezzlement.  Dave tries to fix things but the greedy femme fatale convinces Johnny to rob the entire factory and leave Dave holding the bag.  Will they succeed?  BA

AD89 Black Market Baby (77) aka: Don’t Steal My Baby  aka: Mercado negro de bebés   Anne Macarino (Linda Purl) gets knocked up by Steve Aletti (Desi Arnaz Jr.) a guy using her so he can sell the baby to a couple who miscarried.  Now Anne is pregnant and in a home for unwed mothers waiting to give birth, ignored by Steve.  Of course he did his part.  When Anne hears from pregnant Linda (Annie Potts in her debut) that she is selling her baby Anne begins to realize the truth.  To escape this she listens to her doctor Tom Bosley, who sends her to stay with David Doyle and Jessica Walter, not knowing they are the couple who are supposed to take the baby from her!  Sounds like a white market baby to me.  BA

T707 Blind Justice (86) Happily married free-lance photographer Jim Anderson (Tim Matheson) takes a leak behind a park building and is arrested for indecent exposure.  Jim looks a little like a composite drawing of a felony suspect, so they arrest him again for robbery.  He is identified by several victims of crime and Jim is charged in several jurisdictions for robbery, kidnapping and rape.  Watch in frustration as criminal cops, criminal judges and criminal 'victims' get their pound of flesh by ruining an innocent man.  This could happen to anyone and is very scary.  Also starring Tom Atkins, Linda Thorsen and many more.   BA

AD66 Callie & Son (81) Callie's (Lindsay Wagner - in the open with pig tails and at age 32 being passed off as a 16 year old) son is taken from her after she gives birth as a teenage mother.  Later, she marries a millionaire (Dabney Coleman) and gets her son (Jameson Parker) back and raises him to adulthood.  Her son marries trouble (a young Michelle Pfeiffer) and finds himself on trial for murder.  The movie is hysterical.  The dialogue is unintentionally funny, equally so the accents and delivery from Wagner.  The trial scenes border on camp.  The showdown between Wagner and Pfeiffer is like something out of a bad episode of 'Dallas'.  The movie runs 2 hours and 22 minutes.  BA

AD65 Dreams of Gold: The Mel Fisher Story (86) With a title like that I thought it was going to be some kind of handicapped person going to the Olympics and defying the odds or something.  No, I was wrong.  Mel Fisher hunts for sunken treasure off the coast of Florida.  Mainly, Spanish treasure Galleons that went down in storms (or battle) centuries past.  Mel pursues investors to finance his quest for the treasure of Atocha which sank in a hurricane off the Florida Keys in 1622.  The underwater scenes are terrific.  Loretta Switt is Deo, Mel's wife.  True story, and yes, he finds the 400 million dollar treasure!  BA

AD194 Guilty Conscience (85) Anthony Hopkins plays a mentally agile lawyer who is obsessed with doing in his wife (Blythe Danner).  He knows their marriage is on the rocks so killing her would be much cheaper.  He also has a mistress (Swoosie Kurtz).  His wife has plans of her own in this cat and mouse 'who kills who first' tale of intrigue and suspense.  The fantasy dreams of the characters take on a life of their own.  

AD59 James Dean (76) The film's writer William Bast shared a room with James Dean (Stephen McHattie) in the early 1950's when both men were trying to make it in Hollywood.  James Dean was only in three movies and yet people still cannot stop talking about him.  He is a cult figure.  Legendary in some circles.  Through William Bast's recollections (as played by Michael Brandon) we see Dean's rise and some of the things that were happening at the time with his many girlfriends.  Also starring Brooke Adams, Candy Clark, Amy Irving, Meg Foster, Heather Menzies and many more.  BA

AD32 Love and Betrayal: The Mia Farrow Story (95) Based on actual events in Mia Farrow's life.  The real meat of the story is Dennis Boutsikaris as Woody Allen, a truly bizarre interpretation and maybe an even 'accurate' portrayal.  Patsy Kensit is Mia Farrow, looking nothing like Mia Farrow, nor acting like her either.  Woody's adoptive daughter gives Woody a Woody.  He waits until she is eighteen to make his move.  The story does indeed get nasty.  The trial is painful.  When it is all said and done, Woody's new woman is of age and they can both do as they want.  They should have used that Winger song '17' when Woody would eyeball his young future bride.  That would have made me fall out of my chair.  On a trivia note, Patsy Kensit started her acting career in a theatrical release at age four as Mia Farrow's daughter in 'The Great Gatsby'.  Three hours on one disc!

AD78 Mark, I Love You (80) Distraught widower Hal Painter (Kevin Dobson) plans to start again, remarry and move to California.  Hal's late wife's parents sue him because they want his ten year old son to stay close with them.  Hal's big mistake was letting his bad-haircut son live with his overly-clingy in-laws for a spell while he dealt with his life, and his grief.  Now they want his son.  Based on  true story.  James Whitmore, Cassie Yates and many more star.  BA

AD50 Mother Joan of the Angels (61) aka: Matka Joanna od Aniolów   There located in the Polish countryside sits a lone parish quite possibly infected with demonic forces.  So goes the story of 'The Devil's of Loudon' in which this may have been based, as was Ken Russell's 'The Devils' but this story follows.  The events of the film take place after the priest, denounced by the nuns, has been burned at the stake, the pyre still standing.  The parish is still infected with demons, the Mother Joan in particular, possessed.  The film manages to terrify, filmed in a stark black and white.  Darkness and pessimism will escort us into this world of possession and exorcism.  A sequel to Ken Russell's 'The Devils' made ten years before 'The Devils'.  Polish with English subtitles

AD232 Murder in Texas (81) True life murder case made into a film!  This was one based on a book by the real John Hill's mistress and then second wife so of course we get that point of view, truth or lies who knows? Rich heiress Joan Robinson (Farah Fawcett) marries Dr. John Hill (Sam Elliott) who quickly gets busy spending her money.  John starts seeing Ann Kurth (Katherine Ross) on the sly.  Later, Joan gets very ill, and Dr.  John is useless in curing her.  I see where this is going.  Then, I was surprised to see how it all turned out in the end.  Also starring Andy Griffith, Barry Corbin and more star.  Three hours on one disc!  

AD14 Never Mention Murder (65) In the spirit of Edgar Wallace, but not written by.  The surgeon Philip Teasdale (Dudley Foster) realizes his wife (Maxine Audley) is having an affair with studly nightclub performer (Michael Coles).  His solution involves a private investigator, blackmail, murder, anesthetic, but in that order?  Utilizing real locations makes one mourn for old England.  Dudley Foster would hang himself in London in 1973, dead at age 49.  Widescreen  BA

AD71 Not in Front of the Children (82) Richard (John Lithgow) sues his ex-wife Nancy (Linda Gray) for full custody of the children after Nancy's boyfriend Paul (John Getz) moves in with her.  Richard is steeped in religion and pursues this under moral grounds.  You slut!  Time to go to church!  Marry him or else!  Hardly an issue in the 21st century, ‘Living in sin’ is no longer a thing.  Surprising it ever was. 

AD74 Panic in Echo Park (77) A young black medical doctor (Dorian Harewood) with a swagger (introduced strutting through the hospital halls with a Shaft sounding soundtrack) goes up against whitey when he discovers who was behind the pollution of the water that may result in an epidemic.   Now he has to go around making impassioned pleas and speeches to his older superiors and 'corrupt' bureaucrats who pretend like they care what he has to say, all the while navigating his relationship with his pretty girlfriend (Catlin Adams), and talking to the brothers on the street.  BA

AD73 Rehearsal for Murder (82) Playwright Alex Dennison (Robert Preston) returns to the theater after a year where is fiancé supposedly committed suicide.  Alex assembles the five actors that were there before to get to the truth.  Alex believes she was murdered, and plans to expose the killer.  Good old fashioned whodunit starring Lynn Redgrave, Patrick Macnee, Jeff Goldblum, Madolyn Smith Isborne and more.   BA

AD80 Scandal Sheet (85) Before click bait and fake news Americans mainly fed their taste of tawdry innuendos geared against the rich and famous through supermarket tabloids.  It's no mystery that this happens on all sides of the spectrum no matter what you believe.  In this story a publisher of this trashy rag sets out to destroy the reputation of an aging actor who has a problem with alcohol.  The outrage and sheer perversion of the industry is exposed and we see how unscrupulous and shameless these people actually are.  Lauren Hutton, Pamela Reed and more star. 

AD79 Shell Game (75) John Davidson stars as Max Castle, a convicted con man scam artist, now reformed.  He knows how the breads of corruption are baked.  Max is now an investigative assistant to his attorney brother.  In the current case, they help a woman who is being framed by her boss for embezzlement.  The true embezzler? Her boss.  An elaborate scheme of subterfuge and deception to set up the crook is put into play, using Max's skills.  Signe Hasso as a lady who lunches covered in leopard skin.  Also starring Tom Atkins, Joan Van Ark and more. 

AD77 Stickin' Together (78) aka: Wonderland Cove   Hawaii beach bum Cuda Weber (Clu Gulager) is recruited by a family of orphans to be their surrogate uncle.  This movie led to a show called 'The MacKenzies of Paradise Cove' with Clu Gulager and some of the same cast including Lory Walsh who died of a drug overdose in the year 2000 at age 45 in California.  

AD69 Swimsuit (82) In the open, each perfect looking star is featured, the women, wearing their swimsuits with their name under them, like a Hollywood version of an FFA cattle auction.  I'll bid.  Prime.  A film about a swimsuit company picking who will be the models chosen to 'wear it well' in advertising is an interesting concept.  The sheer depth of the plot, the conundrum the chooser must face.  This is a job I could do.  The contenders are all gorgeous.  Can we pick them all?  If not, why?  Catherine Oxenberg, Nia Peeples, Cheryl Pollak, William Katt, Cyd Charisse and more star.

AD159 Agent for Panic (61) aka: Páté oddelení  Spy film made in Czechoslovakia and dubbed into English.  Here we have a brush-cutted secret agent (Jiri Vrstala) who involves an old war time buddy (also spy in hiding) in some secret and dangerous radio broadcasts.  At stake are materials sought by nefarious forces who will stop at nothing to obtain them. 

AD161 Angry Joe Bass (76) The earnest Joe Bass (Henry Bal) is a modern Indian fighting for his fishing rights in northern MIchigan.  A powerful man invades his freedom, and his rights.  He bad medicine.  Joe falls in love with Karen, the powerful man's daughter.  Violence and terror embraces their love affair.  Tension builds.  Will Joe have his day in court? Maybe, but first, Joe wreaks half-handed havoc across the wilderness, and seems to be at fault when a man accidentally chainsaws off his own leg.  A few outbursts of violence later, we head into the downbeat ending.  The opening and closing songs are moving.  Angry Joe Bass is one cold fish.  BA

AD172 At Home Among Strangers, A Stranger Among His Own (74) aka: Svoy sredi chuzhikh, chuzhoy sredi svoikh   In 1917 the war between the Reds and the Whites followed the revolution in Russia.  On a train a shipment of gold is being sent to Moscow for the purchase of food supplies.  The train is robbed, the people aboard killed.  One man is falsely accused of this assault and escapes, starting his own investigation, joining a gang of mountain bandits which leads him to the gold.  In some ways, this is a like a spaghetti western plot.  Also as an action film, robust, humane, captivating tough and (dare I say it?) emotional as well.  The ending is about as dramatic as film gets.  Russian with English subtitles

AD165 Bare Knuckles (77) Kung Fu man/struggling boxer named Zachery kicks people's asses that are wanted by the cops and then turns them in for a reward.   Zachery meets a local girl.  But another plot is threaded into the film, one that involves a serial killer who abuses his victims before murdering them.  Interesting to see an old school Pizza Hut restaurant.  One guy enters a gay bar and starts a fight for no reason.  The killer is a mama's boy who has seemingly mastered the art of the hairy body.  Victims and Action!  Sherry Jackson, Gloria Hendry, Karen Kondazian and Robert Viharo as Zachery Kane.  BA

X209 Battle Flag (77) aka: Die Standarte  aka: La última bandera   The setting is Belgrade, October 1918 the closing days of WWI.  This is the story of the disintegration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.  Officer Menis (Simon Ward) stands tall defending the battle flag of the defeated, while his men simply try to survive the aftermath.  The battles are plentiful and quite violent.  One takes place on a bridge where soldiers mutiny and are massacred.  Peter Cushing stars as Baron von Hackenburg with a twist of deception.  Also starring Jon Finch, Robert Hoffman, Veronica Forque, Maria Perschy and more.  BA

S859 Blind Boxer (72) aka: Mang quan   The gangster uses a fighter named 'Gorilla' who fights a student of the blind master to a draw.  Jason (as 'Fong Man'?) is the next opponent of 'Gorilla'  and he must fight with a blindfold.  What the gangster does not know is Jason/Fong was trained by a blind master!  Inept poorly staged fights doesn't hurt the film, in fact, it enhances the experience.  With Jason Piao Pai.  BA

AD162 Blonde, The (92) Tommaso practically runs over Christine (Nastassja Kinski) with his car.  She's okay but turns up at his door the following day suffering from amnesia.  Tommaso takes her in and just like that he falls in love.  Things get dicey when Christine remembers that she is the lover of a drug dealer.  Her memory loss is not nearly as dangerous as her past.  'Let it Be' (Beatles) sung by Kinski. 

AD83 Bride Wore Black (68) aka: La sposa in nero   A mystery thriller tribute to Alfred Hitchcock filmed in France and dubbed into English language.  The mystery surrounds a stony-faced widow named Julie (Jeanne Moreau) who embarks on a gleeful spree of murder after her failed attempt at suicide.  The five intended victims are written down on her kill list, those responsible for gunning down her fiancé on the church steps the day of her wedding.  Julie's plan is to lure each man into a place where she can kill them with no one knowing, through various disguises, a poisoned drink, high-angle camera shots and a Bernard Herrman score.  You will never be forgiven!  Also with Alexandra Stewart and Michael Lonsdale and more.  BA

AD75 Camp Followers, The (65) aka: Le soldatesse   aka: Women at War  Filmed in Greece the tale of prostitutes that have been recruited for the military brothels of Italian soldiers during WWII.  They begin a long truck ride through the war-torn mountains, along the way relationships develop between the mostly cheerful prostitutes and some of the soldiers transporting them.  The film is different for this type, more on the peripheries of battle (but yes, there is machine gun killing and death coming), the human relationships, the hopeless futility of dire circumstance, and ultimately, the devastation and doom just over the horizon.  Mario Adorf, Anna Karina, Tomas Milian, Valeria Moriconi, Marie Laforet and more.  Greek with English subtitles  BA

AD105 Desert Snow (89) In a small western town, Italian mobsters versus the Mexicans stand off resulting in a violent gory bloodbath.  Illegal aliens are getting murdered so the drugs they were forced to swallow can be retrieved from their bodies.  This too shall pass.  No.  They'll cut it out of you before they let that happen!  The main villain's woman Tanya delights in the taste of blood.  Plot twists, effective gore and a what the hell ending. 

AD139 Dog Pound Shuffle (75) A wandering prize fighter named Pritt (David Soul) joins Steps (Ron Moody) an ex-vaudevillian/likeable tramp to raise  money to spring Steps dog Spot from the dog pound.  Touching and uplifting tale about friendship, loyalty, devotion and the remarkable ability some of us have to surmount hardships.  Some good fights and overall a solid picture for dog lovers everywhere.  BA

AD122 Friends (74) aka: Peng You  aka: Blood Brothers   A rebellious son from a repressive wealthy family takes on a new identity and joins a group of young men who work for a living and have no idea who he really is.  There he bonds with a good friend and gets his kung fu kicks in spades.  The young son decides to fake his own kidnapping to shakedown his father and help his friends with the money.  When thing go awry he finds himself kidnapped for real!  Widescreen  Mandarin with English subtitles  BA

AD63 I Was a Shoplifter (50) A shoplifting crime ring is targeting major department stores.  While this may seem trivial in the world of corruption and thievery in the 2020's, this was a big deal in 1950, and serious movie plot material.  The thieves are prolific and manage to get their hands on many items that should really be under guard.  Andrea King is the high I.Q. female crook.  Tony Curtis as a baby-faced and dangerous man that is also a potential rapist and murderer.  Charles Drake and Rock Hudson have small parts.  Scott Brady (looking fit and trim) in the role of infiltrating the gang, getting into their good graces, and then taking them down.  Down to the Big House that is.  BA

AD42 Lucio Flavio (77) aka: Lúcio Flávio, o Passageiro da Agonia   Violent political crime thriller.  Lucio Flavio was a famous bank robber in Rio de Janeiro becoming a sort of folk hero like Bonnie and Clyde.  This is because of the 'Death Squads' and the corrupt police.  This was how Brazil was operated under a military dictatorship.  Police and Bandit are essentially the same stuff in this world.  If that is the case, of course you root for the underdog, it's only natural.  Shocking brutal violence, torture, cold-hearted humans doing terrible things and full female and male nudity.  Portuguese with English subtitles  BA

AD62 Moving Finger, The (63) An obscure Beatnik flick filmed in Greenwich Village.  A bank robbery yields 90 grand and one survivor.  He hides on a tour bus, injured and the bohemians aboard shoot him full of morphine for the pain.  In this world of the Beatnik we are about to stay.  There's a coffeehouse where they hang sharing their views in long-winded uppity fashion, smoking and selling of dope, they shower together and plot how to get the loot from the man they have given safe harbor.  A fascinating look at the area in 1963.  Lionel Stander's first after a ten year blacklisting. 

F433 New Abashiri Prison Story: Vagrant Comes to a Port Town (69) aka: Shin Abashiri Bangaichi: Saihate no Nagare-mono  A snowbound affair in a small village on the edge of the ocean.  A vagrant arrives with a crippled child on a horse.  He has returned.  The fishery is run by the Tamura group.  The vagrant agrees to race his horse to pay his debt.  These are bad men who try to rig everything in their favor.  The horse sled race on the snow is spectacular, but the horse dies.  Treachery!  The vagrant will fight with a blade, many men, blood will spray, shoulders will be sliced, throats will be cut, and one man will get a straight forward slash through the skull.  Japanese with English subtitles  Widescreen (This is #12 of 18 film series)

AD61 Out (82) aka: Deadly Drifter   Want to see a movie more confusing than any Godfrey Ho film?  There is definitely some kind of conspiracy going on, and every time dynamite goes off personalities change.  Is this about a young couple (Peter Coyote and O-Lan Jones as 'Rex' and 'Nixie') becoming members of an elite task force?  They travel across the country, changing their names with each stage of the film, going from ten to zero.  Maybe this film is a code for something unsolved?  They receive their orders by picking letters out of a bowl of alphabet soup.  BA

AD100 Overdose (83) aka: The Needle  aka: El Pico   Spain: Paco (Jose Luis Manzano) and his buddy are young heroin addicts.  Paco is the son of a policeman, while his friend Urko is the son of a left wing politician.  Their drug dealer's wife has a baby born with heroin withdrawal.  She coats the pacifier with heroin and plugs that into the babies mouth.  Paco and Urko participate in cold-blooded murder and try to hide their crimes.  Nudity, twists, shocks and a truly grim outcome.  Is there hope for one?  Now with English subtitles!  BA

AD101 Overdose 2 (84) aka: The Needle 2  aka: El Pico 2  First, a recap of the events in the first film.  Now, Paco (Jose Luis Manzano) returns after his dad saved his sorry ass in the first movie.  Paco and his dad relocate to Madrid.  A nosy reporter is determined to expose Paco for his past crimes, covered up by his father.  Paco ends up in the slammer and faces a new cycle of violence and abuse.  Shooting heroin in prison is just as easy as being on the outside Paco will learn.  Jose Luis Manzano, the guy who plays the heroin addict Paco, died from a heroin overdose in Madrid in 1992 at age 29.  Go figure.  English subtitles!  BA

AD35 Paramedic, The (82) aka: Il paramedico  Edwige Fenech is Nina, a bored TV obsessed housewife.  Her husband Mario the paramedic, wins big money in the lottery.  He keeps this a secret from his wife and bumps into a blonde bimbo (Daniela Poggi) who takes him to a party, introducing him to her rich husband (Rosanno Brazzi) as a 'famous medic'.  Feeling his oats he impersonates an officer which results in his car stolen right under his nose!  Mario is arrested.  Now Nina is on TV, being asked by reporters what is it like being married to a suspected terrorist?  Italian with English subtitles

AD207 Ransom!  Police is Watching (73) aka: The Great Kidnapping  aka: La polizia sta a guardare   In Milan, a criminal gangs specialty is the kidnapping of young boys from wealthy families.  Commissioner Cardone (Enrico Maria Salerno) is determined to bring the culprits to justice, the former Commissioner Jovine (Lee J. Cobb) failed to do so.  At the time, actual kidnappings were plaguing the city, this is the action packed (at least in the second half) movie based on what was happening.  Also starring Jean Sorel and Laura Belli.  Widescreen   In English language!  BA

AD107 Seven Women (89) aka: Sieben Frauen   Hans leaves his South sea paradise and returns home where he has been bequeathed a large house and valuable documents along with a treasure map only realized using a computer program.  It's an Easter Egg treasure hunt and Hans meets the seven women living nearby, who seem to be their to help him.  Hans however, has other plans for happiness.  German with English subtitles

AD128 Stone Face, The (73) aka: Stenansiktet   Harry has lost his wife and son in a brutal car wreck.  Now Harry has moved to a gloomy suburb of Stockholm.  Harry hates it and hires a violent gang of punks who live under a parking garage like rats to kill the bureaucrats behind the construction of such a dismal place.  A film about the ugliest buildings used to house the less fortunate and the quest of one man to put a stop to it through violence.  Swedish with English subtitles

AD181 Stronghold (85) aka: Wildschut   Cold-blooded criminals in tuxedos choose an isolated farmhouse to be their hideout.  Jim extracts a bullet taken by Charlie in the robbery and then has his way with the family while Charlie is on the mend.  Hugo, the son in the family tries to make off with the loot.  The military is nearby, not knowing what is being played out in the farmhouse.  Plays like a giallo/crime thriller but this is a Dutch film with some great one-liners.  Dutch with English subtitles  BA

AD179 Ten-Zan: The Ultimate Mission (88) aka: Final Mission   Professor Larsen (Charles Borromel) is attempting to create a master race so they can rule the world.  Mercenaries from Europe and Asia are enlisted to stop his goal of world domination.  Italian directed 'Rambo' Lou (Frank Zagarino who was actually born in L.A.) in this wild action along with Mark Gregory, black-belt holder Romano Kristoff and the drop dead gorgeous Sabrina Siani.   In English but Dutch subs and partially filmed in North Korea something that would never happen today.  From the director of 'Treasure of the Four Crowns' Ferdinando Baldi.   BA

AD88 Titicut Follies (68) A real cuckoos nest.  An exploration of a mental institution in Bridgewater Massachusetts.  The conditions and treatment of the inmates seemed so horrible that this film was pulled from distribution.  A cold no nonsense voyeuristic view into the inmates and their caretakers.  The hospital seems to have a plethora of human defects.  From pedophiles to Tourettes sufferers, schizophrenics to the severely retarded.  Outcasts from the their families and society.  Whatta' ya gonna' do?  Not long after mental institutions were discontinued and now the crazies are in the streets all over the country.  God Bless America. 

AD104 Traps (94) Viet Nam in the 1950's.  A journalist and his English photographer wife arrive at the plantation of a Frenchman and his daughter.  There the four grapple with their own ambitions and desires.  A slippery oil sex sequence between the couple provides some awkward anticlimactic tension.  Later the daughter eavesdrops on the couple and is aroused.  The wife is not satisfied.  The locals put rifles on the wife and plantation owner's daughter.  The husband is sleeping with the plantation owner!  Now they are under siege by the Viet Kong.  Time to kill or time to die? 

AD34 Tunnel, The (88) aka: El túnel   Painter Juan (Peter Weller), sees a beautiful woman in red ('Maria' acted by Jane Seymour) at the art gallery.  Now he is obsessed.  She is moved with one of his paintings.  Juan wants only Maria, and jealousy and lust do not mix well.  Juan goes mad when Maria leaves him.  There he is, outside her mansion with a big knife.  Also starring Fernando Rey as the blind husband of Maria.  This is Robocop going arty farty before he came to his senses and returned in Leviathan.  The film is in Spanish with English subtitles and was filmed in Spain.  The picture is immaculate.  BA

AD28 Two in Black Belt (78) aka: Hei dai hen  When a Hong Kong man returns from a Kung Fu tournament he finds his sister has been stripped and (maybe) raped and his mother brutally abused by those gnarly Indonesians, who are led by a Dragon Lady woman who smokes with one of those cigarette holders to make her look more threatening I suppose.  Hong Kong man goes after them and more than one can of kickass is opened!   This collaboration between Hong Kong and Indonesia (as the villains) gets pretty brutal at times.  BA 

AD24 Verginita (74) aka: Amore e Morte  Featuring two tales both based on the inevitable two hit punch of love and death cobbled along with social differences.  The first is set in 19th century Russia where a beautiful blonde woman meets her lover (who is a man of the church) in the snowy forests, and then a large barn.  When he goes out he returns bloodied and beaten, finding her brutally raped.  Now she looks to be in a catatonic state.  The funeral and another horny woman approaches the man of the church....  The second story is set in Sicily of the 1940's where an older man takes a young bride then loses his mind in flashes of violent murder.  Incredibly dark and pessimistic stuff.  Dagmar Lassander, Annabella Incontrera.  In Italian language only (no subtitles)  BA

Q937 Walls of Abashiri, The (65) aka: Abashiri bangaichi   In the frozen desolate region of Abashiri far from any city, a penitentiary of strict and miserable conditions.  The prisoners are taken out and walked around to cut wood for heat.  Flashbacks and thoughts from the male lead played by Ken Takakura, who would go on in more Abashiri films.  Escape!  Two men handcuffed together.  Through the rocky snow covered terrain.  This looks like a tough film to make.  No special effects.  Raw cold nature.  Look, a barn!  Refuge.  But not for long.  The first film in a series of 18.  This is part Japanese 'The Defiant Ones' in a way, with a completely different location of course.  Japanese with English subtitles  Widescreen

AD108 Widower, The (59) aka: Il vedovo   Alberto (Alberto Sordi) has been using up the household money on foolish ventures that yield nothing.  The debt mounts while his wife Elvira (Franca Valeri), the real moneymaker of the marriage, is soon to fall victim to Alberto's sinister intentions.  Or is she?  Dark comedy with an underlying theme of narcissism and coldness on Alberto's part, a real peace of work this guy.  Italian with English subtitles  BA

AD177 Foxes, The (87) aka: Las Zorras   Some hot Mexican girls keep getting pushed around by various men.  One of them has a boyfriend who is shot to death.  The police arrest her!  She bonds with another abused women in lock-up, throws down with another.  Catfight!  Another woman is kidnapped and abused.  The women are sick of it.  OUT OF JAIL!  Now the time has come to pay some of these scum a visit.  Not to talk to them, to kill them!  You would not want this vigilante squad of babes after you.  They kill dirty cops in uniform, and any man they judge to be bad.  Spanish language only.  BA 

AD54 Golpe de Hacha, A (91) aka: Blow of the Axe   A young waitress is stalked by a creepy guy who is now outside her window as she sleeps.  Why is he stalking her?  Can her friends or the police help?  One of her acquaintances is found bloody and dead.  An axe?  There is a regular she serves at the restaurant.  A big guy with a black mustache.  Is he the one?  Another friend gets the axe, to the neck, and then another left to bleed out in the street.  Now a man is upon her, and she gets a hold of the axe!  In Spanish (no subtitles)  BA

AD56 Los Hijos de Satanas (72) aka: The Children of Satan  Taco Western!   Roman (Jorge Rivero) and Claudio (Juan Miranda) are at odds with one another until they find a common cause.  A gang of thieves led by a woman named 'Yara' (Regina Torne) is determined to control the future of the area through their menacing wicked ways.  Roman and Claudio put down their fists and pick up their guns.  Yara is not only beautiful, Yara is also ruthless!  Yara wants things the way she says they should be, or else!  Also starring Gina Romand.  Juan Miranda and Jorge Rivero display muscular physiques that should have been in sword and sandal films.  Bare-chested beatings, a cave hide-out, a cannon and dynamite action-packed final third of the film, then up to the flashback train track court trial, certainly inventive for this type of film.  In Spanish (no subs)  BA

AD55 My Name is Trigger (86) aka: Mi nombre es gatillo   Gatillo is a tough mustached Rio Grande Valley lawman.  His ex-wife Andrea is a drug dealer who has escaped custody, busted out by a South American guerilla group by another drug lord so together they can sell even more drugs so they can acquire all of the high-end weaponry they need for their cause.  Gatillo and his (not very many) men will go to war!  The cartels have ten times the firepower.  Interesting to watch Mexicans fight the Mexican cartels and blow drugs sky high with explosives.  In Spanish (no subtitles)  BA

AD53 Verano Sangriento (89) aka: Bloody Summer  aka: Vacaciones sangrientas   A Mexican Slasher.  Three young couples and a retarded guy in a wheelchair drive a red van to a large house (with a pool) to spend a summer weekend of leisure and fun.  There in the attic lives the handy man who starts to creep around and watch them when they are asleep.  Things start to get weird after the ouija board is the game of the night.  The attic man plays with his knife.  The killings begin.  In Spanish (no subtitles)  BA

AD175 Actress, the Dollars and the Transylvanians, The (80) aka: Artista, dolarii si Ardelenii  The further adventures and antics of a trio of brothers who have left Romania for America's wild west.  The leader of the clan and also the eldest, smacks the youngest brother around and calls him young and stupid.  One of the brothers falls in love with a woman with no idea she is a crook that is helping somebody rob a bank!  This trilogy was filmed in Romania.  English and Romanian. 

AD37 Ballad for a Gunman (67) aka: Ballata per un pistolero  After a cold-hearted stagecoach robbery in which they brutally murder the passengers as they rob them, the gang then set their sights on a bank.  Meanwhile a clad in black leather bounty hunter (Angelo Infanti) is in pursuit, as well as a self-righteous ex-sheriff with a skill for the gun, and a lust for killing.  The bank is robbed, many people are needlessly killed.  The gang takes a woman hostage and hides out in a mine.  One man is impaled with a wooden stake!  Widescreen  BA

AD27 Halleluja for Django (67) aka: La più grande rapina del west   The Jarret Gang hide out in a small western town after a bank job that yielded a half million dollars.  Jarret (Walter Barnes) and Santo (Jack Betts) wait for a scout to take them through the safest path to Mexico.  Santo has eyes for Jarret's woman, and the other bandits are restless, and very greedy.  Bullets will be flying in no time.  Also starring Katia Christine, Erika Blanc and Sarah Ross.  Slightly Widescreen and dubbed into English.  BA

AD176 Oil, the Baby and the Transylvanians, The (81) aka: Pruncul, petrolul si Ardelenii  Once again the antics of the three bad brothers, this time they have had enough and want to return to Romania after their disastrous adventures in America's wild west.  One of them buys a farm and finds that the boundary line is owned by their Hungarian neighbors and, naturally, a feud is put into play.   English dub and slight widescreen

AD174 Prophet, the Gold and the Transylvanians, The (78) aka: Profetul, aurul si Ardelenii   The infamous Romanian Western Trilogy has arrived!  Peasants from Transylvania travel to the wild west and find their brothers who arrived seeking a better life some time before, are now well known and established gun fighters.  Let the adventures begin!  English language and every now and again a bit of Romanian is spoken.

AD134 Return of the Texan (52) Drama, meet happy-go-lucky.  The 'Texan' who returns is played by Dale Robertson, his roguishly reckless grandfather Walter Brennan, who has a stroke.  Robertson does shirtless sweaty beefcake stuff while working outside and the cute Joanne Dru wearing blue jeans is easy on the eyes.  Bad guy neighbor Richard Boone causes trouble.  Southern modern western filmed with jeeps, trucks and trailers.   BA

AD156 Sartana Kills Them All (70) aka: Lo irritarono.... e Santana fece piazza pulita   An episodic buddy film with a hard edge.  Gunfighters Sartana (Gianni Garko) and Marcos are buddies that always seem to be at odds with one another.  Both are capable of cold-blooded murder.  Together they are on the hunt for a large sum of loot that is missing from a robbery.  They hook up with the revenge obsessed Maria (knock-out gorgeous Maria Silva) and try to dodge the pursuit of a sheriff and his deputies.  One part features a disabled and disturbed ex-confederate along with his four scary psychotic murderous sons who seem straight out of hell.  English dubbed Widescreen  BA
