APOCALYPTIC FILMS

AA632 Mutant Action (93) aka: Accion Mutante   In the future, the beautiful people rule.  A band of mutants/handicaps, comprised of hunchbacks, cripples, a man with two heads, mental defects and others, abduct the pretty daughter of a wealthy man at a wedding party.  Escaping in their spaceship, they crash-land on Axturiax, a planet of no women.  Crazy violence, quirky characters, very dark gory comedy, intergalactic terrorism and (offensive to some) sexual humor.   English subtitles  BA

CLASSIC HORROR AND SCI-FI FILMS

AA479 Battle of the Rails, The (46) aka: La bataille du rail  Featuring the saga of French Railroad workers who are part of an organized resistance during WWII Nazi occupation.  Risking their lives, Camargue and his deputy Athos manage the network in their sector.  Partly financed by the 'actual resistance' in an attempt to dispel the notion the French had capitulated too easily to their invaders.  This is what the French were dealing with under Nazi oppression, brought to light quickly right after the war ended.  French with English subtitles  BA

AA458 Blizzard, The (1923) aka: Gunnar Hedes Saga   In Sweden, Gunner Hedes herds and sells reindeer.  When injured while driving the herd over the frozen Arctic, Gunner becomes mentally incapacitated.  The film is incomplete, this is all that remains.  The montage sequence includes a painting coming to life, a nasty dream sequence, and a bizarre animal-phobic hallucination.  There's an astonishing river crossing where the reindeer cross a wide stretch of river.  Swedish Silent Film runs under an hour and has English translation

AA619 Escort Girl (41) At these nightclubs, women turn tricks as men pay for their services.  June is dating a district attorney that is investigating the business owners, not knowing her mother helps run the girls.  There are a few scenes of the escort girls lounging about in their underwear, and we also get a brief striptease where off comes a top, pretty explicit for 1941.  Naughty Campy Fun.  BA

W509 Go and Get It (1920) Had been looking for this one for awhile.  A gorilla man monster with the brain of a human tangled with a heroic junior reporter involved in journalistic rivalries and of course there is skullduggery afoot.  The ape monster man looks quite creepy and weird, better than the standard monkey-suit stuff that would follow.  Creative use of make-up at hand like Lon Chaney would have done.

AA551 Hitler Gang, The (44) Bobby Watson as Adolph Hitler in this film about his rise to power.  Some of the facts are true, but there is also an amount of propaganda, missing Hitler's personality completely, mirroring gangster noir.  Of course, Hitler became another person in the eyes of American's after the war ended and America knew the true extent of his horrors.  Bobby Watson was the 'go-to' Hitler guy, playing Hitler about ten times in different films and projects.  Wow, typecast as Hitler.  Poor guy.  He died in 1965 at age 76 in Hollywood, killed by a Jewish mob who confused him for Hitler.  No, I made that up, his death was undisclosed.  Since he was a comedian, I thought he would get a kick out of it.  BA

AA451 Hot Rod Rumble (57) aka: Road Devils  Eccentric, Brando-acting rip-off Arny (Richard Hartunian, who was once slated to be the next James Dean) alienates the rest of the gang at the Hot Rod Club, causing his gal Terri (Leigh Warden) to romance Hank, another club member, who is killed in a car accident, while Arny is blamed.  Arny is beaten up, things going south for the budding rebel, but we all know who the real culprit of the accident is, Ray (Wright King), who's day is coming.  Hartunian died at age 39 in 1972, bailing on the whole 'acting' thing in 1961.  BA

X568 House by the River (50) aka: Floodtide  aka: El fantasma de Río   Novelist Stephen Byrne (Louis Hayward) makes his sexual moves on the maid and kills her when she refuses to comply.  Byrne, with the assistance of his disabled brother John, puts her body in a sack and dumps it in the river.  Stephen is fine going about his usual day to day.  John however, is not, and takes to drinking.  John is also the primary suspect as his shifty brother Stephen implicates him.  The sack bobs to the surface, blonde hair....  BA

AA621 Mad Youth (39) aka: Girls of the Underworld   A rich older woman feasts on male escorts.  One of them (her favorite) starts seeing her daughter Marian on the sly.  There's enough to go around girls.  But alas, mother hogs 'The Count' (as he is called) and Marian heads for Pittsburg to be with her friend Helen who is caught up in a prostitution ring.  Can they be saved from this den of sin?  BA

W512 Mr. Washington Goes to Town (41) In the 1930's and 1940's, many theaters were segregated.  Specially tailored for a black audience , this film features a black-actor spin silliness of what passed for zany spooky comedy in 1941.   The movie goes off-the-rails with a kitchen sink mentality including an invisible man, a talking parrot, a headless man, a gorilla and much more.  Mantan Moreland and F.E. Miller star.  BA

W524 Murder at Dawn (32) aka: The Death Ray   The original 'Frankenstein' would have been a whole different monster without the creative efforts of Kenneth Strickfaden, the king of electrical special effects.  This would be the second film that used this technology.  This is an old dark house mystery with secret passages, dark cloaked figures, science fiction science, trap doors, disappearing corpses, a sinister caretaker and a funny scared black taxi driver.  The film runs under an hour.

W513 Mysterious Island, The (1929) aka:  Den hemlighetsfulla ön   In Color!  Straying wildly from the Jules Verne source material by combining them, maintaining the fantastical science fiction/fantasy elements, The Mysterious Island 1929 in Color is quite a feast for the eyes to fans of ancient science fiction/fantasy films.  The special effects are interesting, and state-of-the-art for the era.  Here we have the obligatory giant squid, a land of dragons and an undiscovered H.P. Lovecraft-like fish-people race of midgets who like to drink blood.  Made as sound entered the scene (talkies) we get a little bit of silence, and some sound as well.  Jules Verne did not live to see this film, ,dying in 1905 at age 77.  He was a little man at 5' 5", but managed to write some of the biggest science/fiction fantasy stories of all time, still used to this day.   BA

AA547 Power of the Whistler (45) Richard Dix returns as a man with amnesia after an accident.  A woman tries to help him.  He turns out to be a good cook, but everything he touches seems to die.  Wait until they figure out who he is, and his true purpose.  The man is bad news all the way around.  Do not let him near your pets!  A psycho thriller with a thunder and lightning finale.  BA

AA549 Secret of the Whistler (46) Greed and betrayal as a cheating husband (Richard Dix) waits for his wealthy ailing wife to die so he can marry a blonde greedy material girl (Leslie Brooks).  The wife recovers and, disappointed, he poisons her.  But there are twists ahead, guilt and comeuppance.   BA

W500 Stampede (30) aka: Africa in Flames   Filmed in 1929, released in 1930.  A little black baby in the brush watches as a lion attacks and aggressively devours his half-topless mother.  Boy was that lion hungry.  A large snake dangles above, ready to eat the boy.  Black natives dressed in white come to the rescue, a topless woman in white rescuing the boy from being swallowed whole.

AA627 Teenage Devil Dolls (55) aka: One Way Ticket to Hell   Cassandra is a heroin addict with a record and we backtrack to see her story and how she fell so low.  Cassandra's choice of friends at high school turn out to be very clean looking delinquent bikers.  Now in with them, all drugs are on the table for consumption.  It was only marijuana at first, the gateway to hell.  Her grades drop.  She is no longer eligible for college.  Narrated is this one way ticket....

W501 Two Monks (34) aka: Dos monjes  Monk Javier is acting violently in the gothic monastery and fellow monk Juan believes he is possessed by demons.  Javier chases down Juan and hits him on the cranium with a sturdy crucifix.  But what has brought on all this madness.  A woman? The story is told.  In Spanish with English subtitles

AA550 Whistler, The (44) Depressed after the death of his wife, a man hires an assassin to kill him, but doesn't want to know when or where.  Life goes on and the man finds that his wife is alive.  But the man he paid to hire his assassin is dead, and he knows not who is out to kill him at his misinformed behest.  Richard Dix, Gloria Stuart and J.  Carrol Naish as 'The Killer'.  Nice suspense, makes the most of it's 50 minute running time.  BA

W511 Frankie's Aliens (57) aka: Frankie no uchujin   Rocket experiments failing miserably seem to have disturbed the natural order of space as a strange saucer flying at super sonic speed is spotted darting across the night skies.  'I come from an alien world.  We are afraid that earthlings will destroy the universe'.   This message (one of) the standard in 1950's 'invasion' films.  Frankie is picked up by the aliens and learns their way of life.  Can a compromise be reached? Plot twists and really funny moments in this light-hearted science fiction from Japan with typical special effects in their cultural tradition.  In Japanese with English subtitles

AA569 High (68) Explicit sex scenes in this tawdry tale about a young drug-addicted couple who sell their asses for drug money.  Pot smoking, color tints, black and white sequences mixed with color scenes, casual non-erotic sex, awkward dancing, random uninhibited nudity, bad bad hippie music, snappy editing, panhandling, beauty parlor makeover....  What's strange, this is very light on sex and drug use, instead, the day-to-days of their meager existence and how they get on, made easier for them because they never seem to hit skid row.  Finally, an explosion of violence, and laughter after killing.  Beware of those who have nothing to lose.  Banned in Canada when it came out, presumably from the loose morals depicted.

AA665 Night of the Bloody Transplant (70) aka: The Transplant  Snow bound Michigan is the setting for an illegal heart surgery that goes wrong.  Actual heart surgery footage was the selling point.  Killings by a paranoid psychotic and evil doings by the mad surgeon.  The film is padded by local talentless music acts, burlesque dancers and body painting.  Psychotronic time capsule.  Not to be confused with 'Night of the Bloody Apes' or 'The Amazing Transplant', this is a different beast altogether.

W520 Painless Steel Part Two (90) This was considered obscene in Britain, and Mr. Sebastian the famous piercing pro, was jailed at the time.  Take a journey into the world of those who need to get their bodies mutilated to feel okay with themselves.  Not that there is anything wrong with that.  Some people drink, others toke, still others need to tattoo their whole freaking bodies, some people all of the above.  Just an interesting exploration into this in the times of 1990 when it was maybe not as mainstream as it is today.

AA471 Private House of the SS (77) aka: Casa privata per le SS  There may be traitors in their midst.  Nazi officials hire beautiful prostitutes, led by Fra Inge (Marina Daunia) to seduce military men who are suspect.  Orders from Hitler himself.  The girls easily root out the weeds, and are then given the task of exposing other undesirables for extinction, including the nasty murderer Oscar and his band of henchmen.  Wacky Hans, likes to bash out a tune on an organ between orgies, and spurns the smitten Frau Inge, who sets him up to die.  Loads of nudity, sexual perversions, a sadistic whipping and suicide.  Directed by Bruno Mattei, this is his 'Salon Kitty'.   English dubbed Uncut Version  BA

AA472 She Devils of the SS (73) aka: Eine Armee Gretchen   aka: Fraulein in uniforme   Since this film was made for the German market, the Nazis are not depicted as terrible as they really were.  Instead, the picture relies mostly on the ogling of young and beautiful naked German women.  This is not about historical accuracy or political correctness, but more like a racy nudity-filled 'Hogan's Heroes'.  Light and breezy.  Nazis happily rolling about in fields, or enjoying swastika-topped cakes, cheerily praising the Fuhrer while cavorting in the nude.  Wow.  English dubbed and slightly Widescreen  BA

AA546 Strange World of Coffin Joe (68) The opening salvo forcefully uttered by Coffin Joe will save those of you who are currently in therapy, a fortune.  Now for three tales of horror!  1.  The Dollmaker: Robbers rape the daughters of the Dollmaker, and then learn why the eyes in the dolls of the doll maker are so realistic.  2.  Perversion: A man has unholy lust for a woman.  When she is stabbed to death he spends the night in her tomb to satisfy his dark obsession.  Necrophilia!  3.  Ideology: A madman (Coffin Joe himself actor director Jose Mojica Marins) goes to extreme measures to prove the nonexistence of human love.  Dungeons, torture, cannibalism....  Quite dark and horrifying, unlike anything being made in America in 1968.  English subtitles

AA496 Trail, The (83) aka: Jui gwai chat hung   Taoist priests, who transport hopping corpses, are hired to transport a real dead body (for a change) to it's final resting place.  Best described as a horror comedy tangled with a kung fu -western vibe.  There's an oozing, leprosy-infected swamp zombie out for revenge, opium smuggling, Exorcist-referencing to comic effect, stealing John Carpenter's 'The Thing' score bits...  All because the priests lose their corpse in a quicksand bog and it rises from the muck ....  Widescreen  Cantonese with English subtitles  BA

W514 True Gore 2: Empire of Madness (89) After a scary violent open, where a man is murdered and decapitated, his severed head begins to speak, and talks of the ways of death...  of being dead.  He claims he has never felt so alive, as being dead!  Now, he introduces scenes of death, torture and dismemberment.  He warns us all that we are next.  A graphic brain removal is  followed by other real horrors, as a scary synth soundtrack destroys your very sanity.

L894 Victim, The (99) aka: Muk lou hung gwong   When man who has lost his job returns home after being kidnapped and tortured, his personality changes.  He had been left hanging by his heels in a deserted hotel, haunted by the ghosts of the former owners, victims of a murder suicide.  Now he is irrational, seemingly possessed.  A mixture of horror and crime with twists and turns.   Cantonese with English subtitles

L614 Wedding Trough, The (70) aka: The Pig Fucking Movie   One sick piece of work from Belgium with no dialogue filmed in black and white.  A man lives alone on a farm, his only friend's are pigs.  Real pigs.  Not some fat wife or slobby granny, but sows.  He falls in love with a pig and starts banging it.  Old MacDonald has a farm.  The pig gives birth to mutant human/pig hybrids.  The relationship goes bad.  Time to slaughter the pig.  Murder in this case since the pig is his beloved.  Excessive full frontal male nudity, mating animals, man-on-swine action (simulated) you get the picture, although you may not want to....  Insane, never boaring, but some will call it hogwash.

AA571 Wife Collector (85) aka: Hitozuma korekutâ   Each woman gets a ride in the wrong taxi.  The driver is a rapist who videotapes his sexual deeds, for pleasuring himself later.  He has a collection, labeled for each rape conquest.  Misaki becomes a nymphomaniac.  She will even take you, if you want her.  Casual sex, rape, masturbation, lesbian licks....   Cantonese with English subtitles  BA

AA469 Wonderland Horror (86) aka: Daikanyama Horror   Before the mainstreaming of 'American Idol' type crap, three Japanese girls who aspire to be new pop idols train in a secret school designed for them.  But this is not training, but ultimately a place for them to be terrorized by the band 'Gastunk' and forced to eat guts and puke.  All in good fun of course.  Wrapped around the meat of the thing, dance scenes and people walking around.  This is like a horrifying  music video gone terribly wrong.  The thing is, when shit finally hits the fan, it's surprising.  Japanese with English subtitles  BA

HAMMER & BRITISH FILMS

AA490 Cater Street Hangman, The (98) aka: The Inspector Pitt Mysteries   A serial killer is on the loose in Victorian London.  The feisty Charlotte Ellison (Keeley Hawes) defies the wishes of her stern father (who seems like he may have something to hide) and assists the Inspector (who is under great duress) to catch the killer.  High quality production that will keep you guessing until the credits roll.

AA628 Chastity Belt, The (72) aka: Up the Chastity Belt  aka: Naughty Knights  Outrageous English humor starring comedian Frankie Howerd as (raised by pigs) Sir LurkaLot, the lost twin brother of King Richard the Lion-Hearted who's long left for the Crusades.  Dame De Custard has an easy combination lock on her chastity belt, but her daughter is impenetrable.  The Crusades are featured as a sort of tent-city Las Vegas with sexy belly dancers.  Jokes keep flying as we engage frustrated ladies in waiting.  Robin Hood and his Merry Men also make an appearance!  Bawdy British humor that also stars Eartha Kitt, David Prowse (as 'Sir Grumble') and loads of attractive females.   BA

AA483 Clothes in the Wardrobe, The (93) A young Lena Headey stars here as 'Margaret', a woman who would rather be a nun than a housewife.  The wedding is arranged and the guests are beginning to arrive.  The match is unsuitable.  Outrageous.  Can the impending nuptials be sabotaged?  The thing is, Margaret has met a hunkier, kinder man, while her wedding was being planned.  Veteran cast includes Catherine Schell, Britta Smith, Joan Plowright, Jeanne Moreau and more.

W515 Crackhouse (03) Docu   An ex-crack head visits Liverpool, where 'The Beatles' were born, and we see insight into the lives of crack addicts in the UK, along with prostitutes (some of them pregnant), shoplifters and other deviants.  The theme is simple.  This is not going away.  In fact, the U.K. in 2025 is now unrecognizable, the culture being slowly destroyed as pubs across England are shuttered by the hundreds.

AA618 Deep End (70) aka: La ragazza del bagno pubblico   Mike (John Moulder-Brown of 'Vampire Circus') really digs his older trick turning coworker Susan (Jane Asher) at his new job at the rundown bath house.  In the meantime, his first lady client is Diana Dors, so fifteen year old Mike really has his brain busy.  The use of color imagery in this film is meant to drill into your mind along with the gritty, abstract, storyline sending signals of accidents and destiny blended with young sexual obsession.  Susan is a tease.  Mike starts to stalk and act weird, going off the deep end.  BA

AA525 Great Van Robbery, The (59) aka: Allarme a Scotland Yard   The Royal Mint van has been looted.   Man of action husky, portly karate man Caesar Smith (Denis Shaw) is enlisted to find the mint banknotes, traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Rome and Paris as he tracks a London coffee importer, leading to a shoot-out amid sacks of coffee beans.  Cheap and efficient with locations achieved through stock footage.  With Kay ('Cat  Girl' 1957) Callard as Ella.  Written by Brian Clemens.  BA

AA506 Keep Your Seats, Please!  (36) Musical chairs as George Formby tries to discover which of a half dozen chairs his late eccentric aunt has hidden a large cache of jewels meant for him so the others do not get their greedy hands on it.  The chairs however, have already gone to an auction house.  Formby has a banjo in this film, and sings a couple of songs.  Snap-wit dialogue.  Also starring Alastair Sim.  Formby was illiterate, could neither read or write, but still made his way with a successful career, thanks to his wife.  BA

AA624 Room 43 (58) aka: Passport to Shame  Herbert Lom shines as a horn-doggie daddy pimp oozing charm and generosity, luring women behind closed doors where he turns into a  brutish woman handler, savagely grabbing and slobbering kisses, even his toupe looks like it has an erection.  Eddie Constantine is a two-fisted cabbie who rouses his fellow peers to confront the 'ho-mongers'.  Also, a weird weed-induced dream sequence.  Diana Dors and more.  Michael Caine and Ann Reid appear uncredited as a young bride and groom.  BA

AA500 Sykes and a Bandage (74) Eric Sykes, and an episode of one of his many projects, he sits on a couch, leg in bandages, later also both arms, to comedic effect.  + The Eric Sykes 1990 Show (82) In 1982, Eric Sykes makes a prediction that by 1990, celebrities will have to pay for their own TV shows.  This involves skits of a British humor that is now lost in eternal time warp.  Even the British seem to be sensitive to their past, posting a warning in the opening that states 'This Programme reflects the standards, language and attitudes of it's time.  Some viewers may find this content offensive'.  Which makes me ask the question, to whom is this flaccid apology meant for?  Isn't England still held by the British in 2025?  Stiff upper lip my ass.

AA533 Tiger Bay (34) Olaf and his gang commit every offence, including murder.  The worm turns when Lui Chang finally gets up the nerve to strike back.  Limited sets used to maximum effect, a well-done battle scene, Henry Victor as a gangster leading a wild and deadly gang who speak with practiced English elocution, and Anna May Wong in the performance of her career.  Not to be confused with the 1959 'Tiger Bay'.   BA

AA619 Checkerboard (59) aka: Les tripes au soleil   After a young white man asks a black girl to the annual dance all racial hell breaks out in a dying desert town.  This French/Italian production seems to be a slam on Americanism, depicting the whites as degenerates, the blacks as oppressed.  The man with the black girl is beaten up by white men, a white hooker pins it on black men, giving an excuse to form a lynch mob, some participants the same ones who actually did the beating.  English dubbed  Widescreen   BA

AA485 Moment of Terror (66) aka: Hikinige   The new maid Kuninko has ulterior motives.  Her employer is the man wed to the cheating wife who killed her child in a hit and run.  Now, embraced in the household, Kuniko fantasizes how to do in the young boy, her ward of sorts.  Meanwhile, the adulteress is spinning out mentally as her lover is about to leave town.  What happens in this revenge thriller is a surprise.  Japanese with English subtitles - slight Widescreen

AA531 Red Zone Cuba (66) aka: Night Train to Mundo Fine  Three men escape from the cops, train in some kind of military camp, take a plane to Cuba, ride a train, lay on cots, and then take part in a not-so-massive eight man invasion of an island where Castro is supposed to be.  They fail (and we also get a funny fake-bearded Castro).  The film is devoid of any type of sense.  The characters return to America, and toss an old guy down a well while his blind daughter plunks away at a piano.  In some weird mysterious psychotronic world, this all makes sense.  Bay of Pigs? This line will make you howl when it happens.  John Carradine roped into this, no surprise there, straight off the set of 'Billy the Kid Meets Dracula'.  Directed by and starring the man who also brought us 'The Beast of Yucca Flats', Coleman Francis.  Widescreen

AA593 Return of Dr. Mabuse, The (61) aka: Im Stahlnetz des Dr. Mabuse   The diabolical Dr.  Mabuse is using brainwashed convicts to commit murder.  They are able to escape their cells, kill their target,  and return with no one the wiser.  Gert (Goldfinger) Frobe stars as police commissioner Lohmann, the man assigned to figure out the case, along with help from an American FBI agent (Lex Barker) who is involved with a sexy reporter (Daliah Lavi).  Surprisingly violent at times.  From the director of 'The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism' Harald Reinl.  English dubbed  BA

AA512 Stars Will Tell, Inspector Palmu, The (62) aka: Tähdet kertovat, komisario Palmu   When an astronomer is found dead at Helskinki Observatory Hill, false rumors as to the cause begin to spread throughout the populace, and the usual purposeful slanting of the truth by the press certainly doesn't help matters.  Enter the always reliable Sherlock Holmes of Finland Inspector Palmu.  Whodunit?  Finnish with English subtitles

AA452 Suicide Commandos (68) aka: Commando suicida   The Germans have built a secret airfield that threatens the D-Day Invasion.  Fighting in the area is so thick, Allied Forces cannot get through by air.  Four misfit (oddballs, rag-tags, you pick 'em!) commandos, led by Sergeant Cloadec (Aldo Ray, in a similar 'The Dirty Dozen' turn) are sent behind enemy lines to take out the Luftwaffe airbase.  What is really special is the not-so-special-effects.  The planes and miniatures look like something I set up with my models and set on fire when I was twelve.  This adds to the charm.  The actors play it straight, visual style close-ups, detailed expressions that fit the scenes.  Entertaining, and action-packed!  BA

AA461 Terminator Woman (93) aka: Backlash   More incredible action from South Africa.  Two cops with problems against each other, Jay Handlin ('Golden Boy' ass-kicking kickboxing champ Jerry Trimble) and Julie Parish (karate champ Karen Sheperd) are enlisted to escort a prisoner back to Africa because he knows where a cache of gold is located.  Julie is not a robot, but she sure knows how to kick ass, and Karen Sheperd was the real deal!  Effective well-staged fights and action!   Not to be confused with 'Lady Terminator'.   BA

AA522 Thirty Million Dollar Rush (87) aka: Heng cai san qian wan  Caper heist film about the attempts to steal currency that was slated for incineration (similar idea in the recent hit 'Den of Thieves').  This is an action comedy from Hong Kong containing one wacky situation after another.  Sarcastic, deadpan, and oh the ladies!   Cantonese with English subtitles

AA541 Viper (94) aka: Bad Blood   A trucker comes to the rescue when his loser brother rips off some gangsters who are now after him.  Most would let him rot, but then be denied the action that follows.  The Asian villain is particularly nasty, and the film is ultra-violent in every since of the word, plus, a homage of sorts to the trucker films of old.  Includes the killing in the park of the couple and their child in the opening sequence cut from other versions.  Damn, that was cold.  Kimberly Kates is a knockout.  Also with John P. Ryan in a good guy role for a change.  You will certainly recognize some of the fighters here.  BA

AA558 Young Animals, The (68) aka: Born Wild  aka: Die Cadillac-Bande von San Francisco   'Did you say something Taco?'  Racist white students with plenty of slang words versus Mexican-American students who hate whites as well.  In the open, the rich white boys beat a Mexican, and gang rape his girl.  Then they threaten her to stay quiet, or else.  They plant weed on the beaten passed out Mexican, and he is busted.  Things go downhill for everybody from here.  Patty McCormack stars, once again a schoolgirl, this time at 23.  Well, she's blonde.  A hot one.  When she pulls up to the school in the passenger seat with the new 'greaser' student (Tom Nardini), the kids get pretty rude.  The Mexican kids tell him not to be a 'gringo lover'.  There is racism on both sides here.  In some ways, similar to 'Halls of Anger' from 1970.  Will they give peace a chance?  BA

MODERATE AND MADE FOR TV FILMS

AA640 Acts of Violence (85) The tragic McDonald's restaurant massacre, John Hinckley Jr.'s near assassination of President Reagan, Henry Lee Lucas....  these incidents and cases and more are explored, portraits of their warped motives to murder and violence.  Are we safe, or just waiting our turn? AA642 Alcatraz: The Whole Shocking Story (80)  An all-star cast dominates this fact based account of the 1946 attempted escape from the rock.  Clarence Carnes (Michael Beck) is the mastermind behind the scheme that seems like a good idea, because lifers have nothing to lose.  Art Carney, Will Sampson, Telly Savalas, Ronny Cox, Richard Lynch, Robert Davi, John Amos, Ed Lauter, and many more star.  Told in two parts on two discs counts as two.  BA

AA643 Angel City (80) Forced to sell their farm, Jared Teeter (Ralph Waite), family in tow, heads to Florida for a better life for he and his family.  Teeter winds up in a squalid labor camp controlled by a corrupt and ruthless foreman.  Brutality and kidnapping ensue.  Also in the camp, Paul Winfield who warns/helps Teeter and his family.  Jennifer Jason Leigh is Teeters daughter 'Kristy'.  This movie will make you angry, and root for Teeter as he gets screwed over at every turn.  This is where the promised land becomes the devil's playground.

AA641 B.A.D. Cats (80) Officers of Burglary Auto Detail = B.A.D. Cats (Asher Brauner and Steve Hanks), hot on the trail of what appears to be  stolen Mercedes Benz ring, leading to murder, a million dollar heist and some pretty cool car chases.  Who's who of actors with Michelle Pfeiffer as a bright back-up cop, Vic Morrow as the captain, LaWanda Page as 'Ma', Jimmie Walker as Rodney, Lance Henriksen, Ted Danson and more.  BA

AA481 Bobbie Gentry (68-71) Three episodes of the beautiful talented Bobbie Gentry with guest stars that include Donovan, The Hollies sing 'Blowin' in the Wind' and Bobbie does Chickasaw County.....  and the third and final episode with Long John Baldry.  Bobbie sports some cool pants outfits of various colors, not hippie-drippy but more mod or Euro, less flash, more class.  Made up like the hottest modest 60's babe, jump cut  music scenes with mining town clips that try to place you in Bobbie's heritage (?) and failing miserably, but always entertainingly.

AA644 California Kid, The (74) Sheriff Roy Childress (Vic Morrow) is a serial killer who gets his kicks forcing people off the road to their deaths in a mountainous area.  Michael McCord (Martin Sheen) comes, driving his hotrod, a black, flamed '34 Ford coupe.   Michael's brother, a former victim of Childress.  Nick Nolte works in a wrecking yard.  Michelle Philips is a cafe worker.  What a neighborhood.  BA

AA645 City, The (77) Lt. Matt Lewis (Robert Forster) and Sgt.  Brian Scott (Don Johnson) are tracking the disturbed young Eugene (Mark Hamill, same year as that other movie).  Eugene, abandoned by his father in youth, thinks Wes Collins (Jimmy Dean, that's right, the singer, the sausage guy Jimmy Dean) is his real father, and he goes after the country singer, and tries to kill him.  Hamill is unhinged here, galaxies away from that other character, at least in 1977.  BA

AA567 Destination Inner Space (66) Previously #U927, this new print boasts incredible sharp colors and is now an Upgrade!  BA

AA568 Enchanted, The (84) When Royce Hagen returns to the backwoods of Florida to claim the land left to him by his father, he is greeted by long time family friend Booker T. (Julius Harris, the claw hand man from 'Live and Let Die'), who knows the land, and it's legends.  Booker T. is not pleased when Royce takes a liking to a strange young woman, daughter of a squatter clan.  She moves in to help Royce build his nest.  But is her family even human? Is she?  Uniquely atmospheric rural spooker like a latter-day Val Lewton.  The ending will surprise you.  Enchanting.

AA509 Forgotten Made For Television Volume Three (various)   1.Teri Garr in Flapjack Floozie (88) Comedy special with Teri Garr as a woman with an addiction to flapjacks in the late 1940's. Extra syrup! Also with Toni Basil and Larraine Newman. This will never air again because it also has a large black woman dressed like Hattie McDaniel in 'Gone with the Wind'.  The story is told in flashback to later, detailing her addiction, therapy, like a play. 2. Dick Powell Theatre: Crazy Sunday (62) Rip Torn, Vera Miles, Dana Andrews and Barry Sullivan star. A screenwriter (Torn) makes a fool of himself at a Hollywood party, this, an updated version of a Scott Fitzgerald short story which really has a fascinating history.  3. Zane Grey Theatre: Heritage (59) A very downbeat tale with Edward G. Robinson and Robert Blake as father and son during civil war era.  4. Zane Grey Theater: A Thread of Respect (59) Western tale with Charles Coburn and his buddies menacing new arrivals in town, an immigrant (Danny Thomas) and his son (Nick Adams).  5. Jack Benny: Honolulu Trip (53) Marilyn Monroe guest stars and is so sexy and suggestively seductive in 1953 at age 27 televisions melted or started on fire all over the America. You would think anyway.

AA617 Haunting of Rosalind, The (73) Spooky made for television based on a Henry James story, filmed like an episode of gothic-era 'Dark Shadows' as far as production values go with a slow burn candelabra ghost story for the patient.  Rosalind (the sad and haunted looking Pamela Payton-Wright), adorned in chartreuse period dress) is being haunted (or is she?).  The ending is chilling enough, and the movie does not outstay it's welcome.  Frank Converse (in hilarious British accent) would be Moving On after this performance, and Susan Sarandan stars as well, two years before 'Rocky Horror'.

W508 Inn on Dartmoor, The (64) aka: Das Wirtshaus von Dartmoor   From the Victor Gunn novel, not to be confused with the 1929 film 'A Cottage on Dartmoor'.  Prisoners have vanished from the swampy territory prison of Dartmoor.   P.I. Nash (Heinz Drache, a man who is no stranger to this type of film) is at loggerheads with Inspector Cornwell of Scotland Yard.  Nash believes that they were all a part of some secret organization, and were disappeared for what they knew.  German with English subtitles

AA581 Mae West (82) Mae West deserved an 'R' rated biography ('X'?) but this MFTV white-wash with Ann Jillian in the title role will have to do.  Jillian is pretty, but can't hold a candle to the dry wit delivery of the real Mae West.  The era is captured well, many lines from the lady herself, pushing the limits in the 30's with bawdy material that would shock and delight most.  Roddy McDowall's character Rene Valentine was based on the legendary stage and film star Julian Eltinge, a man who pretty much helped create Mae West, although you wouldn't know it (look him up).  This is very colorful, and okay, but needs a much sleazier realistic remake.  Piper Laurie is the mother, Nicholas Meyer is George Raft, Chuck McCann is W.C. Fields.

AA574 Night of the Hunter (91) In this different remake of the Robert Mitchum classic, the tale unfolds not through the eyes of the children, instead their experienced horror secondary to the antics of the preacher, played with sinister gusto and a slice of ham by Richard Chamberlin, who seems shifty from the start, seemingly unnoticed by Lylah the mother (Diana Scarwid).  If you like the story, this is a nice suspenseful color interpretation, added credibility with Burgess Meredith and Ray McKinnon in supporting roles.

AA576 Sinners of Hell, The (60) aka: Jigoku   This is a tale of things not of this world, the eternal limbo of dead children of Earth.  We will spend time with three very much alive sinners as they engage in betrayals, revenge, adultery, deceit...  just name the mortal sin, a human condition, cards stacked against us all in this concept of what's after.  These who have sinned will meet at the gates of hell.  The film proceeds from one disaster to the other, leading us to the pits of Hell, where we see the true results of the film's budget.  You will lose count of the number of people killed in the first hour.  A film so nihilistic and downbeat, no one could handle it in 1960.  The sequences in Hell disturb because they are played straight.  Widescreen   Japanese with English subtitles  BA

AA582 Sins of Silence (96) Isn't that a Simon and Garfunkel song?  Former nun Molly (Lindsay Wagner) now rape counselor, refuses to release interview files of a rape victim against the order of the court.  The rape victim, also a nun, engaged in sexual encounters with young men, and partied hard, behavior that will make the trial difficult for her.  And also, the lies the raped nun tells may result in her losing her case against the rapist.  The raped woman okays the release of the files, which are subsequently used against her in court.  Is her case doomed?

AA605 Vampire Doll, The (70) aka: Yûrei yashiki no kyôfu: Chi wo sû ningyô  aka: La muñeca que bebe sangre   The dead girlfriend is not in her grave, and her boyfriend Yuko has disappeared.  His sister and her boyfriend travel to Yuko's  ancestral home and are given a cold welcome by Yuko's mother.  A nearby town reveals the dark history as we learn the terrible secret of the vampire doll.  Green cat eyes and a knife in the back, a vampire, ghost or ghoul?  One of these, since a mannequin is all that is inside her coffin.   Widescreen  Japanese with English subtitles  BA

SOUTH OF THE BORDER AND MEXI MONSTER FILMS

AA540 Crying Woman, The (33) aka: La llorona  The wailing spirit of a woman who lost or killed her children returns from the dead to haunt the living, and infect minds causing more death and horror.  This a  staple of Mexican horror, and this is the first sound version of the lore.  The creepy cry comes from a ghostly apparition.  Spooky for 1933.  The Mexican banshee, ghost, boogeyman (woman) all mixed into one.  Spanish with English subtitles  BA

AA528 Fury of the Karate Experts, The (82) aka: La furia de los karatecas   Two sisters, one good, the other, bad, fight over a magic crystal from outer space.  Santo in battles with karate killers who are controlled by the evil sister.  Filmed in Florida, a companion piece to 'Fist of Death'.  Jiggling boobs, killer gorillas, bongo-playing natives, assassins, Satanic rituals.....  This being the 'last' true Santo film, it's really loaded.  English dubbed  BA

AA577 Trampa Infernal (89) aka: Hell's Trap   Burrito Horror slasher from Mexico that delivers the goods.  Paintball enthusiasts Nacho and Maurico decide to up their fierce spirit of competitiveness by traveling to a remote forest where numerous people are being butchered by what locals believe to be a rogue bear.  The contest?  Slaying the beast.  But the killings are not from a bear, but a sadistic Viet Nam vet psycho killer who considers all humans his enemy.  Luckily for us, there are more people involved for him to kill.  A serene lake, busty babes, mullet-haired Mexi man that thinks he's Rambo, a creepy-Slipknot-masked finger-knifed killer that out blades Freddy when doing painful barbaric kills (serrated, no clean slice, but jagged tearing!), jungle traps, action....  Be careful Nacho!  A Frank Stallone song would have been so apropos for the closing credits but alas.  Spanish with English subtitles  BA

WESTERNS

AA459 Hate Thy Neighbor (68) aka: Odia il prossimo tuo  Listed in catalog at #L207 with a brief description, this is a much needed upgrade!  With George Eastman.  English Dubbed

AA552 Reward's Yours, the Man's Mine, The (69) aka: El Puro  aka: La taglia è tua... l'uomo l'ammazzo io   Cute saloon girl Rosie (Rosalba Neri) shelters an alcoholic gun slinging outlaw drifter named El Puro (Robert Woods) from a group of relentless bounty hunters after he is beaten in the saloon after refusing to leave.  Very cinematic, with vivid colors and damaged characters, violent shootouts and really, did the bounty hunters have to beat Rosie to death in a scene so violent I felt like I was watching a giallo? I mean, I'm glad they did, always up for a shock, but man.  El Puro is (almost) tired of running (riding?).  Time to Kill.  Also starring the guy who most resembled Klaus Kinski, Aldo Berti, and let's not forget Lisa Seagram.   Widescreen English Dubbed Upgrade!   BA
